Navratri 2020 Day 5, March 29: The fifth form of Devi Durga who is worshipped during Chaitra Navratri is the mother of Lord Kartikeya who is also called Skanda. This is the reason why she is called Skandamata. Maa Skandamata is benevolent and kind. She symbolizes the mother form of Goddess Durga. Maa Skandamata is depicted having four hands with Lord Kartikeya sitting in her lap. She rides a lion. While worshipping the Goddess, you are also worshipping her child. The fifth form of goddess Durga represents the mother-son relationship that gives immense love and affection to her devotees. It is believed that worshipping Maa Skandamata brings salvation, power, prosperity, and treasures. Navratri 2020 Day 5 History
As per the legends, when Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were meditating, their energies combined into divinity. It was foretold that the child born out of the energies will kill the demon Tarakasur and thus, Lord Indra instructed Lord Agni to steal this divine energy. When Devi Parvati found about Lord Agni, she got angry and cursed him to be all-burner who will burn anyone who touches him and will not know the difference between right and wrong.

Navratri 2020 Day 5 Puja Vidhi
It is believed that worshipping Goddess Skandamata keeps enemies and difficult times at bay. Devotees also believe that Goddess Skandamata blesses those who are facing issues in having a child. The devotees take a bath early morning and then begin worshipping the Devi on the 5th day of the Navratri. The Puja thali should include Batasha (white sugar drop candy), Betel leaf, areca nut, a pair of clove, raisins, lotus seeds, camphor, gugal, cardamom. Once you have added all the required items along with a flower, incense sticks and sweets to your thali, begin performing the aarti and seek blessings from Maa Skandamata.
